It's now clear that Churchill Brothers have been declared champions of the 2024–25 I-League season by the AIFF Appeals Committee after a lengthy dispute involving Inter Kashi and Namdhari FC. The controversy began when Inter Kashi protested a loss to Namdhari FC, claiming that Namdhari fielded an ineligible player. Initially, Inter Kashi was awarded a 3-0 win by the AIFF Disciplinary Committee, which would have given them the league title.
Speaking about the Brothers, they had been leading the standings with 40 points after 22 rounds of play but had to wait for the final confirmation from the AIFF Appeals Committee before they could be officially crowned champions. Despite the official decision, Inter Kashi disagreed with the ruling and announced their intention to take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for an independent review. This uncertainty surrounding the title decision led to a delay in Churchill Brothers’ official crowning as champions, but they were finally recognised as the winners after the AIFF's ruling.
In all this, Ex-MP and ex-CM Churchill Alemao shared many insights related to the Churchill Brothers season and also expressed his vision for Indian football, passionately wishing to see the Indian football community grow at a rapid pace.
Alemao who has been running the club for four decades said "Churchill Brothers have made us proud with their performances. They’ve shown what Goan football is capable of. It’s clubs like these that keep the spirit of the game alive and inspire young players across the country. Watching them win and fight with passion gives me hope".
"Football is something I’ve always been passionate about. It’s my dream to see India play in the FIFA World Cup one day. People say it’s impossible, but I don’t believe that. We have the talent, we just need the right support, the right system. If we work together, build the infrastructure, and give our players the opportunities they deserve, that dream can come true. I want to see our flag on the World Cup stage. That would be the proudest moment for me".
