In a significant operation against illegal wildlife trade, Sanguem Police have seized 5.7 kilograms of ambergris—commonly referred to as whale vomit—valued at approximately ₹10 crore. The seizure took place near the Pepsi plant in Dabamol, Sanguem.

Ambergris, a rare and expensive substance used primarily in high-end perfumery, is protected under wildlife laws due to its origin from endangered sperm whales.

Police sources confirmed that three individuals have been arrested in connection with the attempted sale. Among the accused, two are residents of Goa, while the third hails from another Indian state but currently resides in Goa.

Authorities said that the operation was based on specific intelligence inputs. Further investigation is underway to determine the origin of the ambergris and whether the arrested individuals are linked to a larger network.

The Sanguem Police have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on illegal trade in wildlife products.
