Fallen Acacia tree on Sanguem-Netravali road cleared through joint effort

Published on

On Thursday night, a large acacia tree fell and blocked the Sanguem-Netravali road at Pajimol-Sanguem, prompting local residents, police, and electricity department staff to take immediate action. With the Curchorem fire tenders already engaged in other emergencies, local councillor Meshu D’Costa quickly mobilized a team comprising villagers, police officers, and power department personnel to address the situation. Working tirelessly from 10 pm until around 1 am, the group successfully cleared the tree and reopened this vital road, which is frequently used by ambulances and emergency vehicles. D’Costa also appealed to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to station a permanent fire tender and additional staff in Sanguem, stressing that this would significantly improve emergency response capabilities in the region.

Key contributors to the operation included Sanguem PSI Premanand Naik, electricity department staff, and local villagers such as Laxman Naik, Dhiraj Karpe, Francis Pereira, Newton Fernandes, and Franky. Although the Curchorem fire brigade eventually arrived, the swift and coordinated community effort ensured the road was cleared well before their arrival. Councillor D’Costa expressed his gratitude to everyone involved and highlighted the challenges faced by the Curchorem Fire Station, which serves the extensive rural areas of Sanguem, Quepem, and Dharbandora talukas.
