Strong winds in the Deulwada area of Surla triggered a dramatic incident as a large mango tree toppled, bringing down two electricity poles and damaging a vehicle parked nearby. The incident, which occurred during gusty weather, raised serious concerns among locals about the safety of public infrastructure during the monsoon season.
The fallen tree pulled down the adjacent electricity poles, one of which crashed onto a four-wheeler owned by Gurudas Vaze, the revered priest of the Siddheswar Temple. While the vehicle sustained significant damage, no injuries were reported.
The incident also caused a temporary power outage in the area, affecting homes and local businesses. Emergency response teams from the electricity department arrived on-site and managed to clear the debris and restore power after several hours of work.
Gurudas Vaze expressed his distress over the damage and urged authorities to take preventive measures. “Regular trimming of overgrown trees and inspection of electricity poles is essential,” he said, adding that proactive steps could help avoid similar incidents and protect both property and lives.
Local residents echoed his concerns, pointing out that aging infrastructure and unchecked tree growth have become recurring problems in the village. They called on the forest department, electricity board, and local panchayat to coordinate regular safety audits and maintenance efforts to minimise risk during extreme weather.
