Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has accused the BJP-led government of letting law and order in Goa “completely collapse,” citing increasing political interference in the police department and an overburdened Chief Minister handling multiple portfolios.
Addressing the media on Friday, Sardesai pointed to the recent Marcaim shootout, weeks after the Mungul incident, as indicative of a dangerous trend of rising lawlessness in the state. “The Marcaim shootout is yet another shocking incident after what happened in Mungul. These repeated cases prove that Goa’s policing system is being weakened from within,” he said.
Sardesai alleged that political meddling in police postings has eroded the department’s effectiveness. “Good and experienced officers are deliberately kept in the reserve section, while those loyal to political leaders are rewarded with plum positions,” he added, warning that this practice has led to poor law enforcement and a steady rise in violent crimes across the state.
