Officials Seize 50 kg of Substandard Cashews, Halt Unlicensed Water Distribution in Ongoing Food Safety Drive

In a major crackdown on illegal food operations, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has taken decisive action in Nagoa and Calangute, shutting down unlicensed establishments and seizing substandard goods. The operation was led by FDA officials Richard Noronha, Rajaram Patil, Amit Mandrekar, and Nousin Mulla.

Three unauthorized biryani kitchens were ordered to shut down after being found operating without the necessary licenses, raising concerns over hygiene and food safety compliance.

In a separate raid, FDA officials seized 50 kilograms of substandard cashew nuts from a local retail shop. The cashews, suspected to be unfit for consumption, were confiscated as part of a quality control sweep to ensure consumer protection.

Additionally, a wholesale unit involved in distributing unlicensed packaged drinking water was ordered to halt operations. Samples of the water have been collected and sent for laboratory testing to determine compliance with health and safety standards.

The FDA has reiterated its commitment to strict enforcement of food safety regulations and urged consumers to report suspicious or unlicensed food businesses.
