FDA Cracks Down on Unhygienic Practices in Margao Restaurants During Salcete Inspection Drive
In a proactive step to uphold public health standards, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted a special inspection drive in Salcete Taluka on June 19, 2025, focusing on food establishments in and around Margao.
A total of five restaurants were inspected during the drive, with serious violations uncovered at Hotel Jyoti Plaza. FDA officials reported multiple hygiene lapses at the premises, including:
Use of expired food products and unauthorised food colours
Lack of pest control documentation and sanitary cards
Storage of unwanted and unsafe materials
Improper attire for food handlers
Dirty ceilings with flaking paint
Cockroach infestation in the storage area
In response, FDA officers immediately directed the establishment to discard all expired and unsafe items in the interest of public health. An inspection report was issued, and the food business operator (FBO) was given seven days to rectify all violations and report back to the Directorate of Food and Drug Administration.
Other restaurants inspected included Hotel Laxmi Empire, Molus Kitchen, Shradha Classic, and M/s Domino’s, where minor deficiencies were observed. Each establishment received an inspection report with instructions for timely compliance.
The inspections were carried out by Food Safety Officers Shri Atul Dessai and Miss Pradiksha Chopdekar, under the supervision of FDA Director Shweta Dessai. The department reaffirmed its commitment to rigorous enforcement of hygiene regulations to ensure safe and quality food for the public.
