MARGAO: The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) conducted an inspection in Davorlim targeting a Food Business Operator (FBO) that was found to be non-compliant with licensing and hygiene standards.
During the inspection, Malleshwar Food Products, a local sweet manufacturer in Davorlim, was found to be producing sweets without a valid FSSAI licence. Additionally, the manufacturing unit was operating under unsanitary conditions, raising concerns about product safety.
The FDA issued a notice to the FBO, requiring an immediate cessation of operations until a valid FSSAI license is obtained.
The inspection team discovered approximately 125 kilograms of mawa, valued at Rs 35,000, stored improperly in unsanitary conditions. Given the public health risk associated with the contaminated stock, the FBO voluntarily destroyed the mawa on-site.
Director Shweta Dessai stated that the FDA will continue to take stringent action against violators and urged food business operators to comply with regulations to avoid penalties and ensure consumer safety.
