In a continued effort to uphold food safety standards, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) conducted surprise inspections across Bardez on Tuesday, targeting roadside meat vendors and eateries.
During checks at six meat shops in Karaswada and Thivim, FDA officials found two outlets operating under unhygienic conditions and ordered them to immediately halt operations. The remaining four establishments were issued improvement notices, instructing them to rectify identified lapses to continue functioning legally.
In a separate inspection in Calangute, two food outlets selling shawarma and chicken lollipop were caught using excessive food coloring. Considering the potential health risks, the FDA directed the immediate destruction of the contaminated food items.
Officials said the crackdown is part of routine surveillance to ensure public health is not compromised. More inspections are expected in the coming days, especially with the tourist season approaching.
