FDA Shuts Down Popular Mapusa Hotel Over Unhygienic Conditions and Food Safety Violations
In a decisive move aimed at protecting public health, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has ordered the closure of a well-known hotel in Mapusa after serious hygiene violations were uncovered during an inspection.
The FDA cited multiple lapses in cleanliness and non-compliance with food safety standards as the primary reasons for the shutdown. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane confirmed the action on Monday, stating that the decision was taken in the best interest of public health.
“Strict measures are necessary when it comes to the health and safety of our citizens. The hotel failed to meet even the basic standards of hygiene and food handling, and such negligence cannot be tolerated,” Rane said.
The hotel, which has long been a popular dining spot for locals and tourists, was found to have unsanitary kitchen conditions, improper food storage practices, and general neglect of hygiene protocols.
FDA officials have said the establishment will remain closed until it meets all required health standards and passes a fresh inspection.
The action has sparked conversations across Goa’s hospitality sector, as authorities signal a tougher stance on food safety and cleanliness across commercial kitchens in the state.
