Panic gripped passengers aboard a ferry at Cumbharjua on Wednesday after the vessel suddenly stalled mid-river, putting it in the direct path of an oncoming barge.
According to eyewitnesses, the ferry, carrying several commuters, came to a sudden halt, leaving it stranded in the waterway. As a large barge approached, alarm spread among passengers, fearing a major collision.
Fortunately, the barge altered its course just in time, narrowly avoiding impact and preventing what could have been a serious mishap.
Authorities have been alerted about the incident, and calls are growing for a thorough inspection of ferry operations and urgent maintenance to ensure the safety of daily commuters.
Local residents are also urging the Captain of Ports and Transport Department to enhance safety protocols and review the mechanical condition of ferry boats operating in the region.
