PONDA: The Ponda Fire Station personnel, along with locals rescued three women, who found themselves in distress while crossing a bridge in Deulmal-Sacorda following heavy rains.
The rising water level made it dangerous for the three women - Sheetal Gawas, Savita Chorlekar and Sumita Chorlekar- to cross or return, leaving them stranded on the bridge.
Narrating the incident, the three women said that while crossing the bridge at Deulmal-Sacorda Bridge, they suddenly found themselves in distress. By the time they could cross the bridge; the water levels increased and started overflowing on the bridge and riverbank. So they decided to return back, but at that time, the river too was overflowing on both sides, since it was risky for them to cross the bridge on either side, they were left stranded on the bridge.
Ponda Fire Station incharge Sushil Morajkar said, “We received an emergency call from Dharbandora Deputy Collector that at Deulmal, Sacorda, three women have been stranded on a bridge. The Ponda Fire personnel along with the help of some locals rescued them.”
Morajkar said, “The three women were crossing the bridge, but due to heavy rains, the water levels suddenly increased and the water started dangerously overflowing on both sides of the river banks which left them stranded on the bridge. Following their distress calls, the locals gathered at the site but since it was risky to rescue the trio, they immediately informed the fire personnel.”
The women expressed gratitude for the timely help, and the locals were relieved by their rescue.
