A serious accident occurred at Cuncolim Market on Tuesday when a fish container truck veered off the road and crashed into a residential house. The driver was critically injured and trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters responded promptly, rescuing the driver and shifting him to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with local residents rushing to assist before emergency services arrived. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Locals, however, say this is not an isolated incident. Many blame the increasing frequency of such accidents on the presence of oversized ramblers and heavy vehicles navigating the narrow and congested market roads. Residents allege that despite raising the issue multiple times with the Public Works Department (PWD) and the South Goa Collector’s office, no action has been taken.
"We have repeatedly demanded the installation of solar reflectors and proper traffic management measures," a resident said. "The PWD has ignored our appeals, and now people are getting seriously hurt because of their negligence", they added.
The incident has reignited calls for urgent intervention to regulate heavy vehicle traffic and improve road safety infrastructure in the area, particularly around Cuncolim Market, which is densely populated and frequently busy.
