Fisheries Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar announced a series of key reforms aimed at modernizing Mormugao’s fishing sector during the Seva Pakwada programme. The initiatives are designed to improve infrastructure, enhance safety, and uplift the livelihoods of traditional fishing communities.

The minister unveiled plans for a new fishing and floating jetty at Kharewaddo, the construction of a seven-seater Sulabh Souchalaya, and the installation of 300 solar-powered streetlights across coastal areas. A dedicated net-bending shed will also be built to support local fishermen.

As part of welfare measures, subsidies, sanction letters, safety gear, and transponders were distributed to beneficiaries, strengthening safety and sustainability in the sector.

“These reforms reflect the government’s strong commitment to the welfare of coastal fishermen, ensuring both livelihood security and modern facilities for the community,” Halarnkar said.
