PANJIM: Porvorim police have arrested five persons for allegedly operating a cricket betting racket from a bungalow in Salvador do Mundo and seized mobile phones, laptops, WiFi routers and cash, all amounting to Rs 1.70 lakh.
The accused have been identified as Ruchit Kumar and Nikhil Kumar from Bihar, Pranjal Bhati and Kunal Kumar from Madhya Pradesh, and Vansh Sharma from Karnataka.
They were arrested under Sections 3 & 4 of the Goa Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act during a raid conducted by a team of Porvorim Police Station.
The raiding team was supervised by SDPO Porvorim Vishwesh Karpe, PI Rahul Parab and consisted of constables Mahadev Naik, Tushar Raut, Nitesh Gawde.
Further investigation is in progress under the supervision of SP North Akshat Kaushal, IPS, police said.
