Five Tamil Nadu Tourists Arrested for Assaulting Police at Colva Beach After Ignoring Safety Warnings

In a serious breach of public safety and law enforcement, the Colva police have arrested five domestic tourists from Tamil Nadu for allegedly assaulting and obstructing tourist police personnel at Colva beach. The incident occurred after the group attempted to enter the sea for swimming, disregarding warnings from lifeguards who had declared the beach unsafe due to rough weather conditions.

According to police reports, when tourist police on duty intervened to prevent the tourists from entering the hazardous waters, one of the accused turned violent. He allegedly grabbed a police officer by the collar, scratched his neck, and physically pushed him. The situation quickly escalated as four other members of the group joined in, forming what police described as an "unlawful assembly" and further restraining and pushing the officers.

The altercation resulted in the obstruction of police personnel from performing their lawful duties, prompting immediate legal action. All five accused were taken into custody and have been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.

The arrested individuals have been identified as residents of Tamil Nadu. The Colva police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including charges related to assault on public servants, unlawful assembly, and obstruction of duty.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring tourist safety and maintaining law and order at Goa’s beaches, especially during the monsoon season when rough seas pose heightened risks. The investigation is ongoing.
