PANJIM: As many as four major thefts were reported across the State during the last 10 days from September 23 to October 4.

On Friday night, two thieves struck gold at Nanda Bhandari’s residence at Dhadhem, Sanvordem and decamped with ornaments worth Rs 8 lakh.

On Saturday morning, when the family members woke up, they noticed that the box containing gold ornaments kept in the cupboard was missing.

After Bhandari informed about the theft to his neighbours, one of them found the box dumped with some gold ornaments in it. A gold chain, gold thoda and bangles, all worth Rs 8 lakh were stolen.

Bhandari later filed a complaint with the Curchorem police, who conducted the panchanama. The complainant suspected the involvement of a family member since the lock was not broken but a key was used to open the cupboard.

In the second case reported at Gogol, Margao, gold and valuables worth Rs 3 lakh were stolen by unidentified persons who entered the house after breaking down the main door.

Meanwhile, two youths including a first year B Com student were arrested by the Porvorim police on October 3, for using a car and committing a series of thefts across the North Goa district.

This was the fourth major theft case reported in the State from September 23 to October 4. The first theft had occurred at Nasnodkar Jewellers in Mapusa, where four Rajasthani natives including two minors were arrested for stealing gold and silver jewellery worth crores of rupees.
