
A French national and noted culinary expert, Patrick Albert (64), was found dead in his hotel room in Verna on Monday afternoon.
According to Verna Police, the incident came to light when the Police Control Room in Margao received a phone call alerting them that a male guest was lying unresponsive in his room. A police team rushed to the scene and found Albert motionless on the bed.
Albert, who had been residing at the hotel for the past three years, was immediately shifted to the South Goa District Hospital in Margao, where he was declared brought dead by doctors.
Albert served as a professor and head chef at Kamaxi College of Culinary Arts in Nagao, Verna. He lived alone in the hotel room and was assisted by two caretakers. Around noon on Monday, the caretakers discovered him unresponsive and raised an alarm.
Verna police later conducted a scene panchanama and inventory proceedings. The body has been preserved at the South Goa District Hospital morgue for medico-legal formalities.
A case of unnatural death has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. PSI Carey Fernandes is investigating the case under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and overall guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
