GAKUVED Criticizes Tribal MLAs for Failing to Voice Community Issues in Assembly

Published on

GAKUVED, a leading tribal organization in Goa, has voiced strong dissatisfaction with the performance of the state's tribal MLAs. The group criticized the four elected representatives from tribal constituencies for failing to actively raise critical issues concerning the tribal community in the Goa Legislative Assembly. According to GAKUVED leaders, key matters such as land rights, access to welfare schemes, and social justice have been largely overlooked by these MLAs.

Instead, it is Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members who have consistently highlighted tribal concerns on the Assembly floor, the organization noted. This lack of initiative by tribal MLAs has caused growing frustration within the community, which feels underrepresented despite having direct political representation.

Push for Ministerial Representation

GAKUVED also emphasized the need for stronger representation in the state cabinet. The organization stated it would welcome the appointment of at least one tribal MLA to a ministerial position, arguing that such a move would empower the community and ensure their voices are heard in policy decisions.

The organization’s criticism surely showing a broader discontent among Goa’s tribal population, who believe their elected leaders must be more proactive, visible, and accountable. GAKUVED’s statement serves as a wake-up call, urging tribal MLAs to take their legislative roles seriously and advocate for the rights and needs of their communities.
