Garbage Seen Floating Near Betim Ferry Ramp in Bardez, Goa; Locals Raise Pollution Concerns
Published on

Residents and commuters have raised alarm over the sight of garbage floating near the Betim ferry ramp in Bardez, Goa. The unsightly and unhygienic conditions have sparked concerns about pollution and the neglect of basic sanitation at a key public transit point.

According to locals, plastic waste, discarded bottles, and other debris can be seen accumulating both in the water and along the ferry ramp area, posing risks to both the environment and ferry users.

“This is a daily issue now. The ramp is used by hundreds of people, and yet no effort is made to clean it. The stench and pollution are unbearable,” said a frequent commuter.

Environmentalists warn that the garbage not only affects marine life in the Mandovi River but also damages Goa’s image as a tourist destination.

Locals are calling on the River Navigation Department (RND) and local authorities to take immediate action to clean the area and enforce stricter waste disposal measures to prevent recurrence.

So far, no official response has been issued regarding the cleanup of the affected zone.
