CALANGUTE: Following a complaint from the Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF), the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) conducted a site inspection on Monday regarding alleged illegal construction within 100 meters of Fort Aguada at Sinquerim.

The CCF claimed that a five-star resort is carrying out this construction in survey no 96/0, without the necessary permissions and within a no-development zone (NDZ) of an eco-sensitive area.

Last week, CCF members, along with local residents from Sinquerim and Candolim, protested at the construction site.

According to the CCF, “The construction area falls under CRZ-1A and is designated as an Ecological Sensitive Area, where such development is not allowed.”

They further noted that the site is recognised as an archaeological heritage area due to the proximity of Aguada Fort, which is located on an adjacent property with survey number 92/0. This area is protected under the Ancient Monuments & Archaeological Sites and Remains Act of 1958, which prohibits any development work within a 100-meter radius of the fort, as stated in the CCF's complaint submitted on July 15.
