PANJIM: The Goa Medical College (GMC) has brought joy into the lives childless couples who are now on the way to parenthood with ten of the first 25 women who availed the free IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) treatment, 10 patients have received news of positive pregnancy results with one also expecting twins.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Wednesday said that ten of the first 25 women who availed the free IVF (In vitro fertilization) treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, have tested positive for pregnancy.
Taking to microblogging site X (formerly Twitter), he said, “Glad to share that our initiative providing free IVF at @GoaGmc is transforming the lives of couples struggling to conceive biologically.”
“Out of the first 25 IVF treatments, 10 patients tested positive for pregnancy, and six families are now eagerly preparing to welcome their little ones. Notably, one patient is expecting the twins. The joy and gratitude expressed by these families is truly heartwarming. We wish them great happiness as they happily get ready to embrace parenthood,” he said.
Rane said, “Goa is proud to be the first state in India to offer free IVF, which shows our commitment to the health and happiness of Goans. This initiative is a significant step in that direction thereby ensuring that every couple has the opportunity to build their family.”
In a first, Goa had become the first Indian state to offer free IVF treatment last year. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane inaugurated the Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) and Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)/In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) Centre.
