Goa Activist Demands Transparency on Rawanfond-Power House Road Closure Over Landslide Threat

Madganvcho Awaaz and youth leader Prabhav Naik has raised serious concerns over the temporary closure of the Rawanfond Circle to Power House Road following a landslide risk alert. The decision, announced unilaterally by the Superintendent of Police (Traffic), has sparked demands for transparency, accountability, and public clarity.

“I fully support any measure that ensures public safety,” said Naik, “but decisions of this magnitude must be made in coordination with relevant departments and supported by technical evidence.”

Naik questioned whether the South Goa District Collector and the Disaster Management Authority (DMA) were consulted before the closure was announced. Given that a landslide threat falls under the jurisdiction of the DMA, he stressed the importance of involving agencies such as the PWD, Fire & Emergency Services, and local disaster response teams.

He further pressed for details on whether a technical or geological inspection had been conducted to confirm the risk, and if so, called for the immediate release of those findings to prevent public confusion and distrust.

The public has the right to know: What is the timeline for restoring the road? What short- and long-term mitigation measures are being put in place? And who is responsible for monitoring and updating the public on the progress?

Naik emphasized that the road is a critical link for commuters, emergency responders, and local businesses, and urged the District Collector to:

  • Issue an official status report,

  • Convene a joint inspection with experts and stakeholders,

  • And clarify roles and decisions taken so far.

“This is not about blame or politics,” he said, “this is about ensuring preparedness, public communication, and safety. Madganvkars deserve to be informed, protected, and respected in every decision that affects their lives.”
