Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday assured the Assembly that the Goa government is fully committed to reviving the state’s mining industry in a structured and transparent manner. Speaking during the monsoon session, Sawant shared that 12 mineral blocks have already been auctioned. Of these, three are already operational, while four more are expected to begin work within the next two months.
He acknowledged that the delay in restarting operations has largely been due to the extensive clearances needed from multiple regulatory bodies. However, he gave a firm assurance that full-fledged mining activities across Goa will resume by October.
The Chief Minister further announced that four additional mineral blocks will be put up for auction in the next 15 days. This, he said, underscores the government's resolve to fast-track the revival process.
“We are serious about restarting mining in a systematic way,” Sawant said, adding that recovering dues from defaulting mining companies remains a top priority. “We are taking every necessary step to ensure transparency and accountability at every stage.”
His remarks come as a much-needed boost to mining-dependent communities and industry players who have long awaited a clear roadmap to restore Goa’s once-thriving mining economy.
