The much-awaited and beloved festival of Holi was celebrated with great enthusiasm across Goa, as people of all ages took to the streets to play with colours, dance, and spread joy. The state was awash with hues of pink, blue, green, and yellow as families, friends, and colleagues came together to mark the occasion.
On Friday, private organizations, government offices, and residents joined in the festivities. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, celebrating Holi at Ravindra Bhavan, Sankhali, extended his wishes to all Goans and encouraged the use of organic colours. He highlighted that farmers in Goa have begun producing eco-friendly colours from plants and leaves, promoting sustainability.
Holi observed on March 14th, signifies the arrival of spring, the triumph of good over evil, and the bounty of nature. The festival also marks the end of winter, with each colour symbolizing different aspects of life and divinity.
On the eve of Holi, Holika Dahan was performed, where bonfires were lit to commemorate the burning of Holika, the demoness, and the survival of Prahlada, symbolizing the victory of devotion and righteousness. As per legend, Holika, sister of Hiranyakashipu, was granted immunity from fire but perished in the flames while attempting to harm her nephew, Prahlada, who was miraculously saved.
