Strict Action Against Misconduct Towards Tourists, Says CM; State to Push for App-Based Taxi Regulation

In a strong statement aimed at improving the state’s tourism-friendly image, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has called for strict action against taxi operators involved in misconduct, particularly towards tourists who use app-based taxi services.

During a high-level meeting, the Chief Minister instructed the police and transport departments to remain vigilant and take immediate action against any harassment or unfair practices by local taxi drivers.

Sawant emphasized that the government is working on a series of taxi reforms, with the aim of streamlining transport services across the state and encouraging the growth of app-based ride-hailing platforms, which are increasingly popular among visitors for their convenience and transparency.

“Tourist safety and comfort are top priorities for our government. No one will be allowed to disrupt services that benefit visitors and promote Goa as a tourist-friendly destination,” CM Sawant said.

The move comes amid rising complaints from tourists about hostility and refusal of service by traditional taxi operators toward those opting for app-based options. The reforms are expected to include stricter regulations, better enforcement, and integration of digital platforms into the state's transport ecosystem.
