Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has defended his government’s decision to pass legislation countering a High Court verdict on illegal constructions, saying it was the duty of lawmakers to protect citizens’ interests.
“As legislators, it’s our duty to draft laws and safeguard citizens. We’ve done just that by protecting people from the High Court verdict on illegal constructions,” Sawant said.
The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid ongoing debates over the legality and implications of the new law, which seeks to provide relief to individuals affected by the court’s ruling.
