Concerns over public safety have resurfaced in Vasco after Congress leaders claimed that law and order in the port town had “collapsed” following an assault on police staff near Kingston Plaza, Vaddem, in the early hours of August 19.
At a press briefing, Vasco Block President Nandadeep Raut, joined by Minority Chairman Niyazi Shaikh and OBC Chairman Nitin Chopdekar, criticised the government and questioned the role of local leadership.
Raut said the incident, where a group of youth attacked police constables escorting an accused for medical examination, highlighted a worrying trend. He pointed out that this was not an isolated case and alleged that leniency towards offenders was fuelling repeated clashes.
The Congress leaders urged senior police officials to treat the case with seriousness, avoid political influence, and take strong action based on video evidence to prevent further erosion of public trust.
