PONDA: Farmers associated with Goa Dairy expressed their concerns regarding the stagnant sale of milk, which has remained at approximately 50,000 litres per day in the Goan market for a long time.

At the Annual General Body Meeting (AGM), a farmer Durgesh Shirodkar urged the marketing staff to implement improved strategies to enhance sales.

During the meeting, members called for the reopening of the Goa Dairy cattle feed plant located in Usgao, which has been non-operational for a significant time. Farmers highlighted the difficulties they face in obtaining cattle feed for their dairy animals.

Additionally, the farmers requested an increase in milk prices, contingent upon any hikes in Dearness Allowance (DA) for dairy employees.

Chairman of the three-member Administrative Committee, Parag Nagarsekar, announced a net profit of Rs 2.40 crore for the financial year 2023-24. A total of 86 chairpersons from various societies attended the meeting, out of a total of 176 societies.

Nagarsekar also informed the attendees that the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) is prepared to cover the expenses for filling the vacant position of Managing Director (MD). However, farmers criticised some employees for acting in the capacity of insurance agents.

Sources within the dairy sector indicated a potential rise in milk prices in the near future, as rival dairies have already increased their rates.
