The Goa Electricity Department has announced the cancellation of the scheduled power shutdown in South Goa on Sunday, June 1, citing persistent heavy rainfall as the reason for the decision.
In a press release issued on Friday, the department explained that the adverse weather conditions made it unsafe to proceed with the planned maintenance work. The now-cancelled power outage was expected to impact several areas across South Goa, including the talukas of Sanguem, Quepem, Salcete, Mormugao, as well as parts of the Shiroda and St. Andre constituencies.
A prior public notice had also warned that the electricity shutdown would disrupt water supply from the Selaulim Water Works. However, with the cancellation of the power cut, government officials have confirmed that normal water supply will continue uninterrupted on June 1 and 2.
Authorities have stated that a new date for the rescheduled maintenance will be announced in due course.
