Goa, long known for its scenic beaches and relaxed vibe, is steadily redefining itself as a thriving hub for creativity, innovation, and sustainable entrepreneurship. This transformation was clearly reflected at the 13th edition of First Friday — a monthly gathering that has become a cornerstone event for the state’s vibrant creative community.

Held at the Surendrababu Timblo Hall at GCCI, the event was organized by the Creative Community of Goa (CCG) and the Association of Designers of India (ADI) – Goa Chapter, with support from the Startup & IT Promotion Cell, under the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Government of Goa.

The keynote speaker for the evening was architect and designer Deeksha Thind, widely recognized for her work at Saraya Eco Stays in Goa. Thind spoke passionately about the philosophy of permaculture and its integration with design. “Permaculture isn’t just a method — it’s a way of thinking,” she said, stressing the importance of working with nature, using local materials, involving the community, and creating adaptive, sustainable spaces.

A major highlight of the event was the presentation of the Draft Design Policy for Goa by D. S. Prashant, CEO of the Startup & IT Promotion Cell. The proposed policy envisions Goa as a nurturing ground for creative professionals by aligning design, technology, craft, and entrepreneurship with long-term, sustainable development goals. Prashant underlined the government's commitment to creating an ecosystem where innovative ideas can thrive.

The meetup also featured an open forum for attendees to discuss and provide feedback on the draft policy. The discussion centered on strengthening links between the creative sector, educational institutions, local communities, and industries.

First Friday continues to symbolize Goa’s evolving identity — one that honors its cultural richness while embracing a forward-looking, design-driven future. As the state invests in its creative capital, it is fast emerging as one of India’s most exciting destinations for creative enterprise.
