Goa faces intense rainfall; Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane urges public to avoid waterfalls

The entire state of Goa is currently experiencing heavy rainfall, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had already predicted heavy to very heavy showers. Residents are now witnessing these conditions, prompting the administration to issue an orange alert. Authorities have urged residents and tourists to remain vigilant and prioritise safety.

Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane has announced a ban on entry to Dudhsagar Waterfalls, other waterfalls, forests, and trekking spots, citing safety concerns due to strong currents, sudden flooding, and slippery paths, which could pose serious risks.

Officials have appealed to the public to strictly follow IMD warnings and local administrative advisories and to avoid venturing into remote or sensitive areas until the weather normalises. The IMD has forecasted that these intense pre-monsoon showers, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and wind speeds of up to 70 km/h, will continue.

People have been advised to stay indoors as much as possible, avoid flood- or landslide-prone areas, and take all necessary safety precautions. The administration has also recommended avoiding trekking, staying away from water bodies, and remaining alert for potential travel disruptions and interruptions in essential services.
