In a remarkable demonstration of medical collaboration and human compassion, the Government of Goa, through the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO), has successfully facilitated eight organ donations—transforming the lives of 29 individuals.
These transplants, which included kidneys, hearts, and livers, underscore the power of coordination between public health systems and the selfless decisions of donor families. Each case stands as a moving testament to the life-saving potential of organ donation.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane extended heartfelt gratitude to the families who, even in their time of grief, chose to give others a chance at life.
“Your courage has gifted life to others. We salute your strength and humanity,” he said.
The initiative is backed by a larger vision to strengthen Goa’s transplant infrastructure. Goa Medical College (GMC) is currently equipped for kidney and liver transplants, with active preparations underway for heart and lung transplant capabilities in collaboration with specialised hospitals.
Efforts are also being made to streamline brain death certification protocols, enable faster organ retrieval, and raise public awareness—essential steps toward building a sustainable and empathetic healthcare ecosystem.
Goa is shaping a people-first, responsive model of care. Let us continue to foster this culture of empathy and action
