Goa Farmers to Receive 90% Subsidy on Biogas, Compost and Soil Care

Goa’s farmers will now receive unprecedented support to embrace green farming, with the state government announcing subsidies of up to 90% on biogas units, composting setups, and soil improvement inputs.

Introduced under the Development of Manures & Fertilisers initiative, the scheme aims to cut down on chemical fertilisers while enhancing soil health and sustainability. Biogas installations will be supported with a 90% subsidy on costs, while repairs after six years will receive a 20% subsidy. Farmers can also claim up to three subsidised vermi-beds or portable manure units at 90% support.

Soil management incentives include 75% subsidies on conditioners like lime (up to ₹6,000 per hectare) and micronutrients such as zinc and boron (up to INR 7,500 per hectare). Vermicompost pits and organic manure are covered at the same 75% subsidy rate.

The scheme goes further by motivating grassroots workers: Agriculture Assistants, Field Assistants, and Krishi Mitra will each earn INR 1,500 for every biogas unit they help install.

Officials believe the plan will not only lower input costs for cultivators but also convert agricultural waste into renewable energy, making farming in Goa both profitable and sustainable.
