Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has clarified the state government’s policy regarding media access and the use of photography and videography within hospital premises. Addressing recent concerns and confusion, CM Sawant emphasized that the government has not imposed a blanket ban on media personnel entering hospitals. Instead, the restriction specifically applies to the act of photography and videography within the interiors of hospitals.
He stated, “Photography and videography are not allowed in hospitals. We didn't say media personnel won't be allowed. I am telling again, not a media person but videography and photography won't be allowed in the interiors of the hospitals.” This distinction is important, as it ensures that journalists and media representatives can continue to access hospitals for legitimate reporting and information gathering, provided they respect the privacy and dignity of patients and staff by refraining from capturing images or video footage inside the facilities.
The rationale behind this policy is rooted in the need to protect patient confidentiality, maintain a peaceful and safe environment for treatment, and prevent any disruptions to medical operations. Hospitals are sensitive spaces where privacy is paramount, and unauthorized photography or videography could compromise patient rights or interfere with critical healthcare activities.
The Chief Minister has urged all media professionals and visitors to cooperate with these guidelines. The government remains committed to transparency and freedom of the press, but also prioritizes the well-being and privacy of patients. Strict adherence to these rules will help balance the interests of public information with the essential need for discretion and respect within healthcare institutions.
