Goa Govt Denies Finalising Curchorem as HQ for Proposed Third District
Published on

The Government of Goa has officially clarified that no decision has been made regarding the location of the headquarters for the proposed third district in the state. Recent media reports suggesting that Curchorem, located within Quepem Taluka, will serve as the district headquarters are unfounded and premature. The government emphasized that the proposal for a third district is still under thorough consideration, and all possibilities remain open at this stage.

Goa currently has two districts—North Goa and South Goa—and the demand for creating a third district has been a subject of discussion for several years. Various areas within the state have been proposed as potential headquarters, with Curchorem often mentioned due to its central location in the southern part of Goa and its administrative significance within Quepem Taluka. However, the state government has reiterated that no formal decision has been finalized concerning the district's formation or its administrative center.

Officials clarified that before any final announcement is made, the government will conduct comprehensive assessments that include administrative feasibility, infrastructure readiness, ease of governance, accessibility for the public, and overall development prospects. Public opinions and consultations with various stakeholders, including local leaders and residents of different regions, are likely to be part of this evaluative process.

The Government of Goa's statement aims to temper speculations and reports that prematurely assert Curchorem as the designated headquarters, which could lead to confusion and misplaced expectations among citizens. By keeping the dialogue open and focusing on a deliberate, well-planned approach, the state aims to ensure that the establishment of a third district, if approved, will be in the best interest of Goa’s administrative efficiency and regional development.
