Goa Govt Rolls Out AI Dashcams in Official Vehicles to Curb Traffic Violations

In a landmark road safety initiative, the Goa government has approved the installation of AI-powered dashboard cameras (dashcams) in all government vehicles under the newly introduced Goa Vehicle Authentication (GOVA) System.

Cleared by the state cabinet on Wednesday, the system aims to promote safer driving practices and ensure stricter enforcement of traffic rules. The smart dashcams will automatically detect and record traffic violations such as rash driving, overtaking from the wrong side, lane cutting, and failure to wear seat belts or helmets.

The recorded footage will be instantly uploaded to a centralised backend, where it will trigger real-time alerts and generate challans through integrated platforms including e-Challan, Vahan, and Digilocker.

Officials said the move is expected to not only reduce accidents but also set a precedent for road safety compliance, beginning with government-operated vehicles.
