Renowned devotional singer Ajit Kadkade has been awarded the Gomant Vibhushan, the highest civilian honour conferred by the Government of Goa. The award recognizes Goan-origin individuals who have excelled in their fields and brought pride to the state.
Born in Bicholim, North Goa, Kadkade’s musical journey began early, deeply influenced by his cultural roots. Over the years, he has become a beloved figure in the realm of devotional music, known for his evocative renditions of bhajans, abhangs, and other spiritual compositions in Marathi, Hindi, and Konkani. His singing blends classical depth with emotional resonance, creating a profound connection with audiences.
Receiving the award, Kadkade said, “I am deeply honoured and grateful for this recognition. Goa has always remained in my heart, and this award is a deeply cherished moment.” He dedicated the honour to his mentor, the legendary Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki. “Whatever I have achieved is because of my guru. This award is as much his as it is mine,” he said.
Beyond his performances, Kadkade has been instrumental in preserving and promoting the devotional music tradition. His influence has inspired many aspiring musicians to take up the genre, making him not just a performer but a cultural torchbearer.
The Gomant Vibhushan honour celebrates not only Kadkade’s remarkable musical journey but also Goa’s enduring contribution to India’s cultural heritage.
