In a major step toward enhancing climate resilience, the Goa government has installed three indigenous Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) as part of the National Mission for Strategic Knowledge on Climate Change (NMSKCC). Developed in partnership with BITS Pilani Goa, the stations have been set up at the Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB), the Secretariat, and the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB). They are currently undergoing real-time data validation.
Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira informed the Legislative Assembly that these installations are part of the State Action Plan for Climate Change (SAPCC), which includes detailed climate vulnerability and impact assessments at the village level. The findings from these assessments, which help guide local adaptation strategies, are publicly accessible via the Goa Climate Change Cell’s website.
Although formal agreements with national bodies such as NABARD, ICAR, or ISRO have not yet been finalized, the state has ramped up its public outreach. Training programs, workshops, and meetings with Coastal Biodiversity Management Committees (CBMCs) are underway to raise awareness and promote grassroots climate action.
This initiative marks a strong push by the state to establish a data-driven, community-engaged climate governance framework, emphasizing scientific collaboration and localized resilience-building.
