In a bid to revive interest in farming and support agricultural innovation, the Goa government has introduced agriculture as a subject at the secondary school level, with mandatory field visits included in the curriculum.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant announced the initiative in the Goa Legislative Assembly, highlighting the state’s efforts to equip students with practical agricultural knowledge from an early age.
Additionally, the government is promoting agri-clinics that will offer expert guidance and technical support to farmers. One such clinic has already been established, with more in the pipeline. CM Sawant also revealed that agriculture graduates can avail loans of up to ₹20 lakh to set up their own agri-clinics under the scheme.
The move is part of the state’s broader strategy to modernize farming practices, create self-employment opportunities, and make agriculture a more attractive and viable profession for the youth.
