Goa May Launch Water Taxi Service from Pernem to Canacona, Says CM Sawant

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday announced that the Goa government is exploring the possibility of launching a water taxi service connecting Pernem in the north to Canacona in the south. The proposal, aimed at enhancing inland water transport, was suggested by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the observatory towers on the new Zuari Bridge at Chicalim, Sawant said the state would actively study the feasibility of the water taxi initiative. If implemented, the project could provide a faster and more scenic travel option across Goa’s coastline, easing road congestion.

Sawant also emphasized that the state government would prioritize local employment once the project is rolled out. “Local youth will be given preference for jobs under this initiative,” he stated, reinforcing the government’s commitment to boosting both infrastructure and livelihoods in the state.
