Goa mock drill: No disruption to tourists or locals' activities

Hello and good evening. As everyone is aware, India is set to conduct a nationwide civil defence mock drill today, May 7th, to enhance its readiness for emergency scenarios, including potential hostile attacks.

Following the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s retaliation through airstrikes on terror camps in Pakistan, civil defence preparedness has become a national focus. Today, Panaji and Mormugao are conducting a full-scale mock drill featuring air raid sirens to simulate emergency conditions. The exercise aims to test response systems and raise awareness among citizens. Stay tuned for live updates, official statements, and key highlights from the drill.

There is no need for civilians or tourists to panic, as the mock drill, already scheduled for Wednesday, May 7, 2025, is not expected to disrupt any tourist activities in Goa. Areas known for their nightlife have not been included in the drill. According to government directives, the mock drills will primarily take place in Panjim and Mormugao, where the naval airport and port are located, starting from 4 pm onwards.

The mock drills will replicate a range of hostile situations, such as air raids with sirens and blackout protocols, urban fire emergencies, search and rescue missions, casualty evacuations, establishment of temporary hospitals, and the movement of civilians to safe zones or bunkers.

Today’s civil defence drills in Panaji and Mormugao boost India’s readiness against external threats, ensuring public awareness and agency coordination, without disrupting tourism or daily life. A proactive, precautionary measure.
