The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Goa Police has intensified its efforts to combat the growing drug menace in the state through surprise checks and raids. As part of these efforts, the police have been conducting surprise inspections along the coastal belt, as well as at key transportation hubs such as interstate bus stands and railway stations. The goal of these checks is to target drug peddlers who use these routes to smuggle narcotics into Goa.
SP ANC Tikam Singh Verma emphasized that these surprise checks, which are carried out randomly, are an important component of the ANC’s ongoing mission to curb the drug issue in the state. Goa’s coastal areas and transportation hubs have become major points of concern, as narcotics are frequently trafficked through trains and buses. These checks aim to intercept drugs before they can reach the streets and make their way into the hands of users.
To enhance the effectiveness of these checks, the ANC team is accompanied by a trained narcotics sniffer dog, which helps in detecting hidden drugs. In addition to regular raids, which have led to significant drug seizures, these surprise checks are another proactive measure being taken to prevent drug trafficking and abuse in Goa. The police also focus on establishments in the coastal belt, as these areas have been identified as hotspots for drug-related activities.
The ANC’s approach combines both strategic planning and unexpected interventions to disrupt the operations of drug peddlers. By targeting transportation networks and key locations, the police aim to reduce the supply of illegal narcotics entering the state, ultimately working towards a drug-free Goa. The ongoing efforts reflect the police’s commitment to creating a safer environment for residents and tourists alike.
