Goa Police Raid Onshore Casinos After MLA Vijai Sardesai Alleges Illegal Live Gaming

Acting swiftly on allegations raised in the Goa Legislative Assembly, state police conducted raids on multiple casinos located in Candolim, Calangute, and Pilerne following claims of illegal live gaming operations.

The action comes in the wake of Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai releasing a sting operation video on the floor of the House during discussions on demands. The footage allegedly shows live gaming taking place in onshore casinos — a clear violation of Goa’s casino regulations, which permit live gaming only on offshore vessels.

Raising the issue in the Assembly, Sardesai accused certain onshore casinos of openly flouting the law, prompting immediate attention from law enforcement authorities.

Goa Police, in response, launched a series of coordinated raids to investigate and verify the claims. Officials have stated that any violations of the law will be dealt with strictly, and necessary legal action will follow based on the findings.

The incident has reignited the debate over the regulation and monitoring of the casino industry in Goa, especially with regard to adherence to legal boundaries governing gaming formats and locations.
