Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar is set to resign from his post on Thursday morning, paving the way for his likely induction into the state Cabinet later this week, according to sources close to him.
The development comes amid ongoing discussions within the ruling dispensation over a Cabinet reshuffle. While official confirmation is awaited, senior leaders indicated that Tawadkar is expected to be allotted a portfolio soon after stepping down as Speaker.
Tawadkar, a senior BJP leader from Canacona, took charge as Speaker of the Goa Assembly in March 2022. His move to the Cabinet is seen as part of the party’s strategy to balance regional and community representation in the government.
An official announcement on the Cabinet reshuffle is likely in the coming days.
