The Goa State Heritage Scheme 2025 will be rolled out in a phased manner over the next five years, with a total of 122 heritage houses identified for restoration and maintenance, announced Archaeology Minister Subhash Phal Dessai.

Speaking to media, the Minister said the state government is committed to preserving Goa’s rich architectural and cultural legacy through structured intervention. The project aims not only to restore aging heritage structures but also to ensure their long-term sustainability.

In a significant step towards making heritage conservation financially viable, the government also plans to draft a revenue-sharing model. This model will allow owners of heritage homes to benefit economically, possibly through tourism, cultural programs, or other adaptive reuse formats, while ensuring the properties are maintained according to conservation norms.

“The preservation of Goa’s heritage homes is a shared responsibility. Through this scheme, we will offer support to homeowners while also ensuring public access and appreciation of these treasures,” said Phal Dessai.
