Goa Taxi Associations Seek Waiver of ₹4,650 Annual Meter Maintenance Fee

Representatives from the North and South Goa Taxi Associations visited the Directorate of Transport on Monday to formally appeal for a waiver of the annual meter maintenance fee amounting to ₹4,650.

The taxi operators submitted a memorandum to the Director of Transport, urging the department to consider their request for financial relief. They cited the growing operational costs and economic strain on drivers as key reasons behind the appeal.

Association members emphasized that many taxi operators are still recovering from the pandemic’s financial impact and called the annual meter maintenance charge an added burden.

“We are not opposing the digital meters, but the recurring maintenance fee is too high for small operators to sustain. We request the government to either reduce or waive the fee entirely,” said one of the representatives during the visit.

The Transport Department has acknowledged the receipt of the request and assured the associations that the matter will be examined in consultation with relevant authorities.
