North and South Goa Taxi Associations Warn of Protests if Action Isn’t Taken

The North and South Goa Taxi Union have filed a formal police complaint against an individual identified as Noel, alleging that he referred to local taxi drivers as a “taxi mafia.” The unions claim the remark is defamatory and has caused serious damage to their reputation and livelihoods.

In their complaint, the unions assert that such statements undermine the dignity of hardworking drivers and fuel negative stereotypes about the taxi trade in Goa. They are demanding a public apology from the accused and immediate police action to address the issue.

Union leaders have issued a warning that if their concerns are not addressed, they may resort to statewide protests. A spokesperson noted that the taxi community would not tolerate “baseless and disrespectful labels” that impact their profession and public perception.

Police have acknowledged receipt of the complaint and stated that the matter is under review.
