Goa Taxi Union Protests “Exorbitant” Mopa Airport Parking Fee Hike

The North and South Taxi Union has called on the Goa government to step in and roll back what it terms “exorbitant” parking fees introduced by GMR at Mopa International Airport. The revised rates have jumped sharply from a flat INR 80 to between INR 200 and INR 500.

Taxi operators say the sudden hike puts an unreasonable strain on their livelihoods, as the airport is a vital link for both locals and tourists. They warn that higher parking costs will inevitably push up taxi fares, hitting passengers’ pockets and potentially denting tourism. Many drivers, who make daily trips to the airport, say the increase threatens to erode their already tight margins.

The union also criticises the fee structure for ignoring on-ground realities, such as long waits for delayed flights. They are demanding a more practical, staggered rate system, one that balances fairness for drivers and passengers with the airport’s need to manage traffic and costs.
