Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Monday announced a series of initiatives aimed at improving road safety and sustainable transport in Goa. Speaking at the inaugural of the 14th State Road Safety Week at St. Andrew’s Higher Secondary School, Vasco, the minister said AI-based cameras will soon be installed at all major junctions across the state to curb traffic violations and enhance commuter safety.
Godinho also revealed that more electric buses will be inducted into the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) fleet, a move aimed at promoting eco-friendly mobility while reducing congestion on busy roads.
Appealing to the public, especially the youth, the minister stressed the importance of personal responsibility in road safety. “Wearing helmets, obeying traffic signals, and avoiding reckless driving are basic but essential steps. Safety is not just the government’s duty—it must be a shared responsibility,” he said.
The week-long awareness campaign will feature various programs across schools and communities, highlighting safe driving practices, pedestrian safety, and the dangers of overspeeding and drunk driving.
